    The GNMA Default Underwriter is responsible to review and underwrite loan modifications and ensure adherence to regulatory guidance, and reporting production results. The position will also be responsible for second signing higher risk transactions. This position works closely with the Loss Mitigation and Default Management Departments.




    • Responsible for Quality control of modification files, to support home retention efforts and manage company compliance risk.
    • Analyze transactions to ensure compliance with investor proprietary as well as HAMP, FHA, VA, USDA and GSE program modification guidelines.
    • Owner of modification process flow at point of handoff from loss mitigation agent through generation of documents and final system changes.
    • Ensure modifications are moving forward in pipeline within specified regulatory and investor SLA’s.
    • Submit proposed modification terms through proprietary loss mitigation system, second sign higher risk transactions.
    • Weekly and monthly reporting on underwriter and support staff production and turn times as well as accomplishments/challenges.
    • Assist in creation, maintenance, and updating of departmental policies and procedures
    • Assist with training of new employees, as well as on-going training of staff.
    • Respond to QC inquiries and information requests from QC, as well as internal and external auditors.
    • Use of proprietary and industry standard loss mitigation systems and other standard office programs.
    • Performs other duties or projects as assigned.




    • 5+ years’ experience in residential mortgage underwriting, ability to calculate income, expenses, ratios, NDI, and other standard underwriting knowledge
    • Management and QC or audit experience, enhanced submission authority
    • Superior time management skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to own a process
    • Excel reporting
    • Ability to communicate directly with borrowers.




    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or other relevant coursework preferred, or equivalent training and work experience.
    • High School Diploma required.
    • Experience with modification documentation or origination closing documentation
    • Familiarity with HAMP, FHA, VA guides and procedures
    • NMLS Licensing, preferred
    • Servicing experience, especially delinquent assets




    • PC computer with Windows operating system, facsimile, photocopier
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
    • Proficiency in MSP, subject matter expert preferred
